All EverFocus’ DVRs

Answer

In general, if your DVR is setup with Daylight Saving Time (DST) function, playing back recordings during DST will not be a problem. However, there will be no recording if you search for the recordings within the hour after the DST end time. And if you search for the recordings within the hour before the DST start time, there will be two different recordings searched based on the same time range. This is normal when DST is set up to your DVR. Below we will explain how the system time shifts to DST and how to play back the recordings in detail.

For example, if the DST is set up as below (System Setting > Daylight Saving):

Start Date: 2nd Sunday in March
Start Time: 2:00am
Set to (shift to): 1:00am (usually set up as one hour ahead of the Start Time)
End Date: 1st Sunday in September
End Time: 1:00am

The diagram below illustrates how the system time will change when DST has been set up.

Let’s take a look at the start time part (2nd Sunday in March), when system time reached the start time (2:00am), system time will shift to DST time (from 2:00am to 1:00am). In this case, during 1:00am and 2:00am, you can see two recordings (System Time recording & DST recording). That means the DVR records both of the System Time recording & DST recording to the HDD. Therefore, when you search the playback recordings between 1:00am and 2:00am, there will always two different recordings with same time range displayed on the playback bar. For instance, if the playback search time range is set between 1:20am and 1:30am, once you click the play button on the playback bar, the system will start playing back “System Time recording (1:20am ~ 1:30am)” first and then playing back “DST recording (1:20am ~ 1:30am)” right after.

Now let’s take a look at the end time part (1st Sunday in September), when DST time is up to the end time (1:00am), the DVR will shift the time from DST to System Time (from 1:00am to 2:00am). In this case, during 1:00am and 2:00am, there will be no recording stamped with time between 1:00am to 2:00am. It doesn’t mean there is no recording during this time range. Just if you want to search for the recording from 1:01am to 1:20am, you will have to search from 2:01am to 2:20am, as the time has already been shifted one hour behind.
